The Cold Hardy Windmill Fan Palm tree originated on the island of Chusan off the east coast of China, and the Windmill palm tree is often called the Chinese or Chusan Fan Palm. Robert Fortune smuggled Windmill palm plants from China into the Kew Horticultural Gardens and into the Royal garden of Prince Albert of England in 1849 after the Opium Wars of China ended. The Windmill Palm tree was named in Latin, Trachycarpus fortunei, after Robert Fortune, and after 158 years, in the year 2007, these Windmill Fan Palm trees are still growing gracefully as a distinguished, exotic, rare tree at Kew Gardens, a palm of noble bearing.

Because of the recent success of planting large specimen trees of the tropical looking Windmill Palm tree in Canada and Northern U.S. States, many gardeners are now experimenting with planting small Windmill Palm trees in the North, before the plant has developed a sufficient dense fiber covering to make the tree cold hardy enough to survive the deep freezes in the Northern States.

Typically the Windmill Palm tree has a history of surviving over 150 years of age in the Western World at a height of 40 feet, but accurate reports of Windmill Palm trees, native to the Island of Chusan in Eastern China, do not exist in translated texts, but conceivably could reach 100 feet in height. The rapid growth of Western influence on the development of China will undoubtedly reveal many more interesting botanical, developmental facts concerning the Windmill Palm tree in the near future.

The Windmill Palm tree appears to have all the perfection of tropical landscape gardening requirements for growing throughout the United States and cold hardy areas of Canada and Europe. Most types of soils are acceptable for growing Windmill Palms. Very few insect and disease problems exist to endanger growing Windmill Fan Palm trees. The American penchant for anything British has seen its peaks in Shakespeare, the Beatles, the Queen, Elton John and perhaps even Tony Blair just to name a few. Being enamored of the pomp and perfection of all that is akin to Elizabethan English does not necessarily prove that a speaker is endowed with exceptional intelligence and by no means does it say anything of their character. Americans don?t seem to know this, just like dogs don?t know it isn?t bacon but even worse is the inclination to accept anything spoken with a British accent as initially more intelligent right out of the gate.

Dawkins has taken to his circuit of documentaries and university speaking engagements with a religious fervor that can only be described as?religious! Youtube now fancies many of Dawkins lectures including one of the most recent ones given at Randolph-Macon Woman?s College in Lynchburg Virginia in October of 2006. Only those who are not deafened yet by secularisms bellowing priests of empiricism could fail to hear the circus like atmosphere that Dawkins speeches have begun to sound like.

The audience gushes with applause and laughter when Dawkins suggests that one way to deal with Liberty University?s assertion that dinosaurs are just 3000 years old is to resign from Liberty and look for a ?proper? university. It would seem that empiricists have taken to theatre to make a point that is failing to capture anyone but the dyed in the wool secularist and an ever growing army of pseudo-intellectuals. An army of conscripts rather than volunteers formed as a result of restricting anything but the secular view from being taught in public education for the last 40 years.

Mr. Dawkins failed to mention that many Christian universities see the dinosaurs and the world as much older (the gap theory) yet still maintain that God did create everything in seven days. After all, his son (Jesus Christ) produced enough bread and fish in a millisecond to feed over 5000 people. Oh, those pesky miracles and creation stories! Most Christian universities are content to believe that the God of truth is telling the truth and that the Apostle Paul included Mr. Dawkins when he said ?let God be true, but every man a liar? Ro 3:4

You would have to wonder if the scientist of today were actually present and resultantly lost their hearing at the ?big bang? for their inability to hear anything contrary to their own conclusions including the voices of some from their own ranks. Darwin?s voice must seem louder than their own contemporary physicists who have not merely espoused another view but have proven the laws of entropy or what is otherwise called the ?second law of thermodynamics.?

Science has proven that all things always go from a more complicated state to a less complicated state but that must seem too complicated for the empiricists who insist in Darwin?s highly touted ?Origin of Species? which because of entropy stands defiantly against every major discovery of physical science in the last century.

Even empiricisms best wizards seem altogether helpless to stave off a growing exodus of scientists because of their colleague?s refusal to consider the folly of the evolutionary model against new discoveries and the lack of evidence to support old assertions. The question of why science won?t take another more honest view is not new to our world. Generations of those who bled to death from scientific intolerance have already asked such questions and echoes are yet resounding.

How long will they keep blood letting until they see it is wrong, it?s hard to say? Maybe they think the earth is still flat and blood letting saves lives or that phrenology is an exact science. Perhaps they should complain a little less about how the church mishandled the genius of Galileo and center in on how some of their own misguided assumptions caused the mishandling of entire generations who were misdiagnosed or bled to death in the name of science. Does science need to be reminded that the death toll for believing that the earth revolves around the sun is zero while thousands of lives were lost to blood letting?

That some can?t accept the yet missing remains of millions of specimens from years of alleged evolution seems to be saying that the hard line evolutionists may be able to count more skeletons in their closets than science has produced for any real time investigation.

It would seem that to even make a cursory examination of the reams of new evidence emerging from ?creation science? might be considered treason or defection from the petted secularist view of how things all began. Once again the secular scientist disregards the unspoken howbeit no less important element in the definition of true science which is to uncover the truth. One truth is that creation science has moved parallel to the secular evolutionary model in growth and discoveries. The Scopes monkey trial will go down in history as secular science?s only win but since that was another theatre piece staged before all the facts were in, it will count for little.

Science insists man came from the caves and is headed to the stars. The Bible insists that man came from the stars (created by a celestial being) and is going to the caves (Isaiah 2:19) at the second coming of Christ. The difference in these matters has not to do with science but in the perception of mans problems and mans general direction. To science the lack of reason is the problem and the direction is endlessly higher once we reckon that simple truth. To the scriptures the problem is a moral one and only an intervention by God?s grace can head man off from going feet first into wholesale perdition.

Perhaps the response to one sound and not the other is not based on discoveries or conclusions at all. The definition of science is limited to repeatable observable phenomena. What is coming out of Darwinism and the theory of the universe crowd is anything but repeatable or observable. Even without an English accent to make it sound sophisticated, what modern science is depending on to make swelling statements about what took place millennia ago and cannot be repeated or observed is nothing more than ?prior philosophic postulate.?

To break that down into what us country folk can understand that is ?faith.? Yes, it takes faith to believe in what a scientist says about an event that neither they nor anyone else ever witnessed. If more people would be honest with themselves they might see it takes a great deal more faith to believe, than the witnessed and historically recorded events of the life of Jesus Christ.

In a population of 300 million, America may be able to produce a few thousand truly intellectual people. Educated people number in the millions so what is the difference? It may be said best in a recent remark by CSI Grissom on the hit CBS series CSI Crime Scene Investigation. While scolding a youthful suspect for selling drugs on a crowded spring break beach full of college students the drug dealer said ?kids knew how to find their way around.? CSI Grissom replied with ?Most of these kids couldn?t find their butts (expletive deleted) if they had a road map.? This is the crowd that Dawkins appeals to and we might say is pandering to in some respects.

Madalyn Murray would be delighted if she could see that atheism is almost completely in vogue. With Britain?s staunchest secularist ally brandishing a marvelously seductive accent and engaging crowds of university disciples of modernity with impeccable use of the English language she would undoubtedly be elated. That notwithstanding, it could not be enough to raise Ms Murray from the dead.

I would stand convicted as charged if someone accused me of repeating this saying too much. On the other hand I still hear the ring of the advice I once heard from a friend who said ?if something is really worth saying then it is well worth repeating.? So what is my hackneyed saying? ?The Bible is the book of why and does not conflict with science, which is the book of how.?

To put these two books at odds with each other is not wise. In fact to even suggest that they are not compatible is to lower our own expectations of both God and man together or independently. The Apostle Paul was no slouch when it came to understanding human nature and by the Spirit of God he was additionally infused with a wisdom that as Jesus said ?his enemies could not withstand? Luke 21:15 Paul knew that the most immediate outgrowth of intellectualism would not be enlightenment but rather it would be arrogance and pride. It is that arrogance and pride that stands in the way of mans enlightenment not the word of God. Let?s see.

Indoors or out, youll find miniature roses very easy to grow. These little guys sometimes get overlooked because they give off little fragrance, yet they can be the perfect visual accent to any home or garden.
Compared to their full-sized cousins, miniature roses are practically maintenance-free. Just give them a "bath" once a week, and they'll last forever.

Small is Comparative
A common misconception about miniature roses is they will make ideal houseplants. Before moving them indoors, realize that miniature roses can grow up to 4 feet in height. This large houseplant will need a very generous source of light. The micro-mini roses, however, only grow to about 5 inches tall and are just as easy to maintain.
If you're determined to have miniature roses indoors, there are several tips that will make caring for them easier.

Planting Indoors
Place your plant in direct sunlight. They flourish in the sunniest windows of your home. If the stems appear to stretch out, leaving wide gaps between the leaves, your rose is not getting enough light. Either move the plant to a new location or provide supplemental light.
Make sure to bathe your plant weekly. Spraying will reduce the risk of a spider-mite attack. Gently mist the tops and undersides of the leaves. The spray also removes dust.
Make sure that your plant looks comfortable in its pot. If the pot is too small, the plant will be cramped. If too large, your roses will be reluctant to grow.

Planting Outdoors
Outdoors, most miniature roses bloom from spring until the winter. If covered with mulch, it will have a good chance of surviving frost and cold winters. You can plant your roses directly into the ground, a hanging basket, or in an 8 to 10 inch pot. Make sure your plant isn't shaded by large trees or anything that will cast a shadow. These little plants love direct sunlight.
If you choose to plant your roses directly into the ground, dig a hole about 1 foot in depth and diameter. Take your rose out of its pot and gently untangle any loose roots. Place the roots down into the hole. Refill the hole with loose soil, so that your miniature roses are level with the top of the ground. Water your plant thoroughly. These same rules apply to potting your plant.

Water Faithfully
Don't let the soil dry out. The first 3 weeks are crucial to any plant's health. Water every day for those 3 weeks. These roses do enjoy their water! After the 3-week period is over, your goal is to just keep their soil moist. Check the soil daily -- If it feels dry, give it a little water.
Miniature roses will look great in your living room, along the edges of your flower beds, or anywhere your home or garden needs a little burst of color.

Gypsum also has a job of repairing the soil that has been damaged through compaction from heavy stock, machinery, in the recovery of sub-soils exposed by earth movement and in soils affected by salinity.

A gardener faces one of the biggest problems in a new or established garden if they have a clay or layer of hard subsoil type of soil. This type of soil creates poor drainage, soggy soil and soil compaction.

When you have a new garden you can work organic humus, which should be done anyway, to loosen the poor soil. Manure, compost, peat moss and soil mulches and conditioners are normally used for this purpose.

You might ask, what do you do in an established garden?
A lot of work and time to recondition soil would be required. Gypsum may be just the answer for reconditioning the soil, because it can be spread on the surface of the soil like in the vegetable garden, flowerbeds or on the lawn. What this means is it does not have to be worked into the soil, it can just simply be spread on the surface.

What does Gypsum do?
It's main purpose is to penetrate the many clay particles in heavy or the layer of hard subsoil type soils and loosen the soil structure. Then this creates air and moisture slots that will loosen and break-up the soil structure.

Be aware that gypsum does not contain any major plant nutrients, so continue a regular fertilizing program even though it contains calcium and sulfur which is needed for plant growth. In addition, continue to put out organic humus as you plant.

Gypsum is easy to apply!
Just spread it on the lawn, using the granular type, with a lawn spreader at the rate of 40 pounds per thousand square feet. Gypsum fertilizer can be spread any time of the year and only one application per year is needed. To get it started working, water immediately after applying. If applied properly it does not affect the pH of the soil, not harmful to humans and your animals and will not burn. And because Gypsum is neutral and will not change the soil pH, you can use it in places where plants like Azaleas, Camellias, Rhododendrons and other acid loving plants grow, they need a little calcium too. Of course, gypsum should be applied per directions.

America is a melting pot. That is what they say. New York City is certainly proof of that especially Queens NY. We have Greeks, Peruvians, Italians, Korean, Spanish and Indians. We in fact have people from over 120 countries, many recent arrivals. And together we all must work, play and get along. Certainly it can get confusing. Many immigrants are speaking English, it is just there own version of English with there own accents and speech patterns. These accents can make a Chinese person sound angry when they are not, or a Korean person sound more diminutive than what they are feeling. How often does the Italian or Spanish person sound more emotional to our ears than how they are feeling? Many of our stereotypes do come from the person?s accent.

The Spanish and Italian languages have a pattern of rising intonation, while American English has more peaks and valleys, so when they apply there natural stress pattern to English they sound emotional to our ear. The Russian intonation goes down at the end of each sentence. When this is applied to the English language they can sound depressed. How many impressions are we receiving incorrectly due to accents? And what must it be like when two heavily accented people talk to each other?

Learning English is no easy task; we speak figuratively and use a great deal of idioms. Many have to learn English while trying to earn a living or get a degree. How much time can they put into English pronunciation? Well in all honesty in this age of information and service industry growth they may want to find some time to put into it. People spending money on services want to be able to communicate clearly with the waiter, the sales staff and the tech support person on the phone. Promotions and jobs are going to those who have the communication skills.

Attending accent training classes can be inefficient as they usually have students with many different language backgrounds in one room. Each background has there own challenges and it is difficult for the teacher to get to everyone and allow everyone to get enough practice. For some following a school schedule would just be impossible. Textbooks for self study just don?t cut it. You need to hear the sound before you can copy it! Tapes and videos involve rewinding and cueing to hear the examples repeated, which can be frustrating and a waste of time. Now however, accent training has gone high tech. You can now work on your accent with the help of your computer. This is ideal as so much information can be packed into one software CD-ROM. These CD?s contain animated graphics, video clips, waveform graphs, and lots of practice games. The other feature that the software contains is instant feedback. You just click the button and you can record yourself and play both yourself and the model speaker to assess how well you have done. You can here the examples over and over again with no rewinding or cueing. It does seem to me that the high tech solution to accent training has finally arrived!

If you are covering your antique or classic car under a regular insurance policy, you may be paying too much. An antique car is classified as a thirty year old vehicle. It has historic plates and can only be driven as part of a show. If an old car doesn?t fit either of these requirements then, it is simply an old car that can?t be insured under the special policies available. This is classification is necessary because there are some companies that deal exclusively with classic or antique cars and they generally have lower insurance fees attached.

You may get your car appraised if you think that its value is much more than what the book states. The appraisal process includes the car becoming officially recorded with a list other cars that are considered to be under that same value bracket.

To select a proper appraiser you could contact the American Society of Appraisers (or ASA for short). When you are selecting your candidate, look at their resumes. It is best to have an appraiser that has worked with your make of vehicle in the past, and knows a lot about it. Check their references for more information about them.

The appraiser checks the vehicle thoroughly for the final report. If she can, she will run the car and take note to the condition. She will also be taking a lot of pictures, to add to her detailed document. She will include a record of similar vehicles with their prices. The appraiser bases her list on various sources such as car price guides, advertisements, auction and sale results; and other documents related to the car.

In addition to an appraiser, the insurance policy company needs information such as make, color, model, body style, and year. Engine number and Vehicle Identification Number (or VIN) could be asked for. Cars such as a Ferraris or Corvette must have a VIN for verification.

Another good reason for putting your classic or antique car under the proper insurance policy is that they would most likely understand what the car needs and what concerns you have about your vehicle.

There are three types of insurance for an antique or classic car. There is the actual cash value (ACV); agreed value (AV); and stated value (SV). If your insurance policy is under the heading of actual cash value (or ACV), then the value is set for the cost of the car at the time of being insured. This value decreases with time, if the insurance is needed, an insurance claim adjuster will decide how much the ACV is.

With the stated value (or SV), the insurance pays either the fees related to damage of the vehicle or the ACV depending on which costs less. The AV is the better of the three. When you get your AV policy, you are guaranteed a degree of coverage regardless, if anything happens to your vehicle.
